Frequently Asked Questions

What is Glam Camping?

Glamping at Moke Lake offers the perfect balance for those seeking adventure without sacrificing comfort. Imagine waking up in a cosy, eco-friendly geodesic dome, surrounded by the serenity of nature. No fumbling with tent poles or worrying about deflated airbeds—everything is ready for you, from luxurious queen sized beds to hot showers and even power outlets for your devices. Off-grid and nestled in a private, breathtaking location, you'll be treated to stunning views of the lake and the surrounding mountains.

This is your chance to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Swap the noise of the city for birdsong and fresh mountain air. With no Wi-Fi or mobile signal, it’s a perfect opportunity to recharge both mentally and physically. We recommend packing some sturdy shoes for exploring the beautiful trails and warm clothing for those cool evenings under the stars.

Whether you’re looking for a peaceful retreat or an adventure with a touch of luxury, glamping at Moke Lake promises an unforgettable escape into nature.

What is the maximum capacity in each dome?

Each of our domes has a queen bed and sofa bed which sleeps either 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children under the age of 12.

Alas, our sofa beds would not comfortably sleep 2 adults so we recommend booking Moonlight Domes. Please note, sofa beds are only made up when required and they do take up space in the domes.

For guidance;

Seffers Dome - 2 or 3 adults OR 2 adults + 2 children under 12.

Moonlight Domes - 4 or 6 adults OR 4 adults + 4 children under 12.

Is there WIFI and signal?

Guess what? No, there isn’t! This may even be one of the only places in the world left that doesn’t have WIFI?! We joke - but we do think it’s a good thing for those really wanting to disconnect from the world and re-connect with loved ones and the beautiful setting. We therefore ask you really take note of the directions before you leave the town centre. We are off-grid in a remote, rural location.

Are the domes heated?

The domes are not heated, hence we do close during the winter months. Our operating months are mid-October until mid-April. We do supply a number of blankets and hot water bottles to keep toasty warm and recommend you bring suitable clothing to layer up. Our New Zealand weather can change very quickly!

Is there a hot shower and flushing toilet?

Yes, we have portable ‘glampa campa’ trailers which host the bathroom including a normal size, very good hot shower and a flushing cassette toilet. Please note, these are like caravan or camper facilities - the water will run out if you shower for too long!

How far away is the site from Queenstown?

The scenic drive from Queenstown town centre will usually take about 20-25 minutes depending on the traffic, which is dependent on the time of year. It is a gravel road to the domes so we do recommend driving carefully and ideally, a 4WD. If you have a rental car, please check your terms and conditions and if they are permitted on gravel tracks. Please note, we are off-grid in a remote, rural location.

What cooking facilities are there?

Both sites have a kitchen utility unit ideal to prep your food and a ‘Glampa Campa’ trailer which also hosts a kitchenette facility with gas hobs and sink. We also supply all crockery, glassware, cutlery, cooking utensils, basic condiments and a BBQ to cook up a feast! There is no fridge so we supply a chilly bin cooler and ice blocks.

Are pets allowed?

Unfortunately, with it being a working sheep farm, we don’t want to scare them away! Therefore, pets aren’t allowed. We’re sorry!

Is it suitable for children?

Absolutely! We think nature is the best environment for children! As our domes have a queen bed and sofa bed, we can accommodate up to 2 adults and 2 children under 12. We can also arrange a portacot.

All additional guests after 2 per dome are charged additionally. Our young guests have such a great experience and generally love the adventure.

What time is check-in and check-out?

You are welcome to check-in anytime from 2pm. We do recommend arriving before it gets dark to enjoy the views. We are also happy to meet you upon arrival to explain the domes and how to use the facilities. If you would like us to meet you, please let us know your time of arrival. Check-out time is 10am. Due to our volume of bookings, unfortunately, we usually cannot accommodate early check-ins or later check-outs. We’re sorry!

How does the ‘Glampa Campa’ work?

Both Seffers Dome and Moonlight Domes has a ‘Glampa Campa.’ These each have a 200-litre water tank which is replenished daily by us. They run off solar for lighting and gas heats the water which is also used for the gas hobs in the kitchenette. If we are not meeting you on arrival, please read the instructions in the welcome book located in the domes as there are things to note with regards to using the facilities during your stay.

What does off-grid mean?

Off-grid means we are not on a main supply of power, water, gas or sewerage. This means our domes are powered by solar, our water is on a 200-litre tank replenished daily, our gas is supplied by gas bottles, our toilets are portable cassette style toilets like a caravan or camper and our ‘Glampa Campas’ have a waste tank. As part of your experience at Glam Camping, we take care of all of this, so you don’t have to!

What do we need to bring?

Most importantly, a sense of adventure! Whilst we have provided creature comforts, please remember, this is still a camping experience and we are located rurally on a working sheep farm. You will need clothes, we recommend items to layer up, and some sturdy shoes. Bring your favourite camping food, add on our DIY food boxes or ask us and we can arrange this for your arrival.

Can we have a fire?

Unfortunately, no. Fires pose a massive risk to the local farmland and the winds can change very quickly! Fires are strictly prohibited as it smoking.

We're more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
Feel free to get in touch.

Please note - we are closed from Mid-April until Mid-October.
